A Tradition of Joy: Nearly 50 Years of Santa’s Salty Soup

On Friday, December 13, a beloved tradition that has spanned nearly 50 years came to life once again at LCS. Kindergarten students delighted their peers, parents, and the public with their performance of Santa’s Salty Soup, a heartwarming and humorous holiday play that has become a cherished rite of passage for the youngest members of the school community.

The story of Santa’s Salty Soup follows Santa's helpers as they inadvertently make his Christmas Eve soup far too salty due to a mix-up with the ingredients. Chaos ensues as Santa, the elves, and even Mrs. Claus scramble to fix the soup before the children wake up on Christmas morning. With plenty of laughs, catchy songs, and moments of festive cheer, the play has remained a favorite for generations.

The tradition is more than just a performance; it’s a shared experience that connects current students to those who came before them. During the performance, older students in the audience could be heard singing along to the familiar tunes, reminiscing about the roles they played years ago. In a touching moment following one of the shows, former cast members joined the current students on stage for photos, creating a beautiful snapshot of tradition and community.

As the “curtain closed” on this year’s Santa’s Salty Soup, it was clear that the tradition’s rich history and joyful spirit continue to bring the LCS family closer together—one salty spoonful at a time.
