Once upon a time, in the bustling halls of Lubbock Christian School, a charming mascot named Eli Eagle soared high in the hearts of students. It was the early 1960s, and Eli was the star of the school’s yearbook, "The Eagle Eye." Hand-drawn with flair, Eli sported a snappy bowtie and a bright, friendly smile, embodying the school's spirit.

Eli made his grand debut around the same time a spirited kindergarten student named Hutch Haley began his educational journey. Keep reading to learn the history of their shared adventure, which have remained undiscovered until now.

As the 1960s came to a close, Eli Eagle mysteriously vanished from the pages of "The Eagle Eye." Without their beloved mascot, the yearbooks continued to evolve, reflecting changes in the student body and the school’s culture. Hutch, now a high school senior, bid a fond farewell to Eli as he graduated, taking with him the cherished memories of their time together.

Time marched on, and Hutch eventually returned to Lubbock Christian School as a teacher and coach. The campus had transformed over the decades, with new facilities and a more diverse student body. Hutch, ever nostalgic for the past, was always keen to honor the traditions that had shaped him.

In 2024, and now as President of LCS, Hutch made a thrilling discovery while exploring the school’s archives: a dusty old shelf containing the forgotten Eli Eagle yearbooks. With renewed enthusiasm, Hutch decided it was time to bring Eli back, giving him a modern twist for the new era.

A talented graphic designer was enlisted to give Eli a fresh look. Gone were the bowties of old; Eli now sported a cool backward cap and an outstretched hand, as if to say, “Hey there! Let’s embark on this new chapter together!”

Eli Eagle in 2024

The reintroduction of Eli Eagle should be celebrated with great fanfare. Not only is Eli back in the limelight, but he also makes his debut on the brand-new platform you’re reading today: "The Flight Report," the school’s inaugural e-newsletter. This vibrant new digital newsletter will keep students, parents, and alumni updated with the latest school news, achievements, and upcoming events. Eli Eagle proudly adorns the banner graphic of "The Flight Report," symbolizing the school's exciting new chapter.

Sharing his excitement about Eli Eagle, Hutch said, “After 58 years, ELI EAGLE is back. He is new, improved, and ready to be a vital part of the LCS culture and community. Welcome back ELI!”

Now a symbol of school spirit and continuity, Eli Eagle bridges the gap between the past and the future, celebrating the school’s rich history while looking forward to new adventures.

And so, with Eli Eagle now prominently featured on "The Flight Report" and once again at the heart of Lubbock Christian School, the story of this cherished mascot and the friend who revived him has been reimagined for a new generation. It's a tale of two friends—once classmates and now colleagues—who have shared a remarkable journey together at LCS.
